Roads4All
From behaviour to policy - building a traffic safety culture for all
About Roads4All
Co-creating safer Living Roads for all through a holistic, multi-level, participatory approach to cultural transformation (2025 – 2028)
Roads4All: Co-creating safer Living Roads for all through a holistic, multi-level, participatory approach to cultural transformation (2025 – 2028)
Roads4All is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under the Grant Agreement no. 101203314 and by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
Roads4All is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation project that aims to foster a new traffic safety culture across Europe. Bringing together 14 partners from eight countries, the project seeks to make mobility safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable by addressing not only infrastructure and regulation, but also the behaviours, relationships, and cultural norms that shape road safety. The project combines scientific research, community engagement, education, participatory methods, and innovative technologies to develop practical tools and approaches for safer mobility. These will be tested in five “Living Roads” in Tallinn, Rome, Zagreb, Novi Sad, and the Region of Central Macedonia, where communities, public authorities, businesses, schools, researchers, and citizens will co-create and assess solutions in diverse real-world settings. Through cross-European collaboration and knowledge exchange, Roads4All aims to make safer mobility an everyday practice and a shared societal value.
Modalshift
About Modalshift
Multimodal Optimisation leveraging Data Acquisition from Local Stakeholders towards a Holistic Improvement of Freight and People Transport
MODALSHIFT is the result of a European initiative aimed at improving low-carbon transportation systems in European cities.
In light of climate change challenges, the project addresses the need for new ways of travelling—especially for short- to medium-distance journeys—designed to minimise carbon footprints in accordance with recent CO₂ emission agreements. At the same time, it takes into account users’ need to move smoothly, reliably, and safely, in order to reduce current issues related to delays, interconnection gaps, and transfer inefficiencies.
The goal of the MODALSHIFT project is to develop a set of 11 solutions, supported by digital and technical innovations at TRL 5-6, for optimising multimodal transport and traffic management, especially for short- to medium-distance journeys. It will involve agent-based modelling, digital twins, capacity-as-a-service, traffic forecasting, network mapping, data collection and the participation of mobility operators. Three sites in Bulgaria, Italy, and Spain will test and validate the developed solutions. Designed to minimise carbon footprints in accordance with the recent CO2 agreements signed in the EU, the project will also benefit from the involvement of a Canadian partner, which will add an external perspective and foster international collaboration on multimodality and climate change.
